Gays Gain the Right to Adopt BUT….
http://www.womanist-musings.com/2010/09/gays-gain-right-to-adopt-but-what-about.html
A friend sent me this link and I was pleasantly shocked by the blog post. Its so rare for someone not connected to adoption to see the side of the mothers. Its even more rare for someone to speak out about it.

I do not believe gays or lesbians should have the right to adopt or foster. I know that almost everyone who reads this blog will think this is prejadece and racist but its what i believe. I dont even want them having children at all. I know they are people but i dont think it is healthy for children to have 2 moms or 2 dads.

Thanks for the link, it is so right. People should not be discriminated against due to their sexuality but at the same time the voice of the mother remains silent and unacknowledged during the revision of adoption law to fix the sexuality discrimination.
What about us?
I talked to a gay friend about this over a year ago as he was quite active in fighting for the ‘right’ to adopt when the issue came up in our country. He had no idea about other adoption issues and had planned on adopting later on in life if he gained the ‘right’ to. Now that he has an understanding of the various issues facing the mothers, he has been in conflict about what to do, I think he has decided to foster.
This needs to be talked about and people need to be made aware.

I think that gay people should have rights. But, I don’t think that their rights should oppress other people’s rights, ie, adopting and taking away the right of child’s parents rights to parent. Anytime one person’s rights interfere with other, its not a right but a privilege.

Andrea I am so sorry for her- I wish I had seen this sooner. School has kept me busy though and my time spent reading blogs is limited.

Thats cool Andrea, I am not offended 🙂 Yes, you are right to be wary, this IS the internet and we haven’t met.
I did look her up on Facebook just to see if there was a remberance page but there isn’t. I am just so sad for this poor girl. She didn’t deserve to go through this.
